Porcelain veneers: The “secret” behind many celebrities’ perfect smiles

Imagine a celebrity smile that you admire. Porcelain veneers may be the secret to their dazzling, “perfect” teeth. As with all dental procedures, there is no one treatment that is suited to each patient with similar dental concerns. Porcelain dental veneers at the East Vancouver, British Columbia office of Simply Wellness Dental may be recommended only after one of our dentists examines your mouth and discusses your goals with you.

The great “imitator”

Veneers are very thin layers of dental ceramic. Porcelain is a popular dental material for veneers because its characteristics are similar to natural tooth enamel. The material features unsurpassed aesthetics, reflecting light in much the same way as natural enamel. It also supports many practical and functional considerations; porcelain both resists stains well and is highly durable and strong.

So, while dental bonding may be a more affordable option upfront, porcelain veneers may provide a better long-term value. They can last for years with proper home care and regular visits to our office for routine professional care.

Today’s porcelain veneers have also never been better due to the use of advanced bonding materials. Veneers get their strength from how they are bonded to the natural tooth. We must support the strongest bond to the natural tooth structure. So, before placing them, each tooth must be prepared. This preparation involves removing a minimal amount of enamel, which creates an excellent bonding surface. Your veneer can then be securely attached to the tooth. Since modern veneers are very thin, little natural and healthy enamel is removed to ensure each veneer fits nicely on top of the tooth.

Making many cosmetic concerns disappear

Veneers are incredibly versatile. Once applied, they cover everything from chips to excess spaces between the teeth. They can even be used in such a way as to make a short or worn-down tooth look longer or to “reshape” a pointy or otherwise irregularly contoured tooth. If we determine that you are a good candidate for veneers, the process can generally be completed in just a few visits. During the first visit, information about your teeth is collected. This information is used to make your veneers. Your teeth are also prepared. Temporary veneers may be applied to protect the prepared teeth while your permanent ones are being made. Once the permanent veneers are ready, the temporaries will be removed during the cementation visit. If the permanent veneers look and feel great, they will be secured or bonded to the teeth. Drs Adi Nokiani and Eric Quan will also work closely with you to ensure your veneers hold up well and remain looking great. We will provide tips on how to care for your new smile that are specific to your needs. Many Happy Faces

Veneers are thin handcrafted porcelain shields worn on the front of the tooth which improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped, cracked, stained or worn. Veneers are thin as contact lenses, and are an aesthetically pleasing option of closing gaps, lengthening teeth, and providing symmetry to make your smile more natural. Veneers are intended to last for many years without changing color. They are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in dentistry. Ask your dentist if veneers may be right for you.
