Restore your naturally beautiful, healthy smile with partial dentures

Today’s dentures are not your grandmother’s “false teeth.” Modern dentures recommended by the team at Simply Wellness Dental in East Vancouver, British Columbia, are planned, designed, and fabricated to look and feel no different from healthy, natural teeth and supportive gums. Our dentists, Drs Adi Nokiani, Ashleigh Sran, and Eric Quan, will work with you to ensure that your dentures or replacement teeth are designed with your one-of-a-kind needs, personal preferences, and other unique characteristics and considerations in mind.

When a “partial” may be in your future

You may not need a complete denture. These options are for patients who are already missing all their teeth or whose remaining teeth are failing. Depending on these patients’ needs, they may be fitted with either an upper or lower denture or both dentures. But, if you have at least some healthy teeth left, you may benefit from partial denture services.

The situation: You aren’t a candidate for a bridge.

Generally, the dental bridge may be recommended when one or a few teeth have been lost. However, the bridge is not an alternative for every patient. Most bridges rely on the neighbouring “anchor” teeth for their strength. Then, the replacement tooth is fused or connected to dental crowns. These crowns are placed on top of the anchor teeth and then cemented to them. Once secured, the replacement tooth fills the gap and is held in place by its crowned neighbours. But what if you don’t have a healthy tooth on either side of your gap?

Partial dentures to the rescue!

Partials are designed to replicate missing or to-be-extracted teeth. These artificial teeth sit on top of a base that recreates gum tissue. The artificial teeth and gums are connected to a metal framework. They’re stabilized in your mouth with attachments or clasps attached to your natural teeth. The partial may be removed and re-inserted for cleaning or before bed.

  • There is a “transition period.” It’s normal for a partial to feel a little heavy or awkward at first. This passes with wear and practice. Removing and inserting dentures gets easier over time.
  • Proper fit comes first; comfort and healthy function follow. Your dentist adjusts dentures as needed if you have sore spots.
  • Start small. Chew small pieces of soft foods. Work your way up to sticky or hard food.
  • We’ll advise on proper denture cleaners, brushes, and techniques to retain the shape and extend the life of your partial.
  • These dentures can be made from various materials, some of which are more flexible or rigid than others. We are happy to walk you through the different options.

Patients can avoid the “maintenance” associated with partials entirely with implants. Dr. Jason Park focuses his practice on placing these “artificial tooth roots.” They may be positioned and secured in the jawbone to replace a single tooth, a few teeth, or all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw(s).
