Invisalign teeth treatment is an orthodontic system like no other! Since its FDA approval in 1998, millions have benefited from its use! If you’re looking for an alternative to metal braces to straighten your teeth, there’s no better choice than Invisalign. A visit to Simply Wellness Dental in Vancouver, BC, can kickstart your Invisalign journey. These FAQs were compiled by Drs. Adi Nokiani, Eric Quan, and Jason Park explain more about Invisalign.
How does Invisalign differ from traditional braces?
Invisalign replaces the metal brackets and wires of traditional braces with transparent thermoplastic aligners to straighten your teeth. The aligners do the job of moving crooked teeth into a straighter position with less discomfort and inconvenience. Where metal braces are permanently attached to your teeth, Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating and oral hygiene. The aligners are clear, so they’re less noticeable on your teeth, eliminating any awkwardness about your appearance.
Do I have to wear the aligners all the time?
Practically! The aligners are designed for full-time use, even when you sleep. For optimal results, wear the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day, limiting removal times to snacks, meals, and oral hygiene. The success of your treatment relies on consistent aligner use!
What can I expect from the Invisalign procedure?
As every smile is unique, our team will customize your procedure and create a series of aligners for your personal use. We’ll use 3D imaging to calculate the movements of your teeth and visualize how your smile will appear when you complete your procedure. You’ll use each aligner set for approximately two weeks and then switch to the next, following the sequence in your treatment plan until your smile goals are achieved. We’ll schedule dental visits every 6 to 8 weeks to check on your progress and oral health.
Are the aligners painful to wear?
No, but you can expect some discomfort when you first start your treatment and when you change to new aligners, due to the pressure they exert on your teeth. Once you adjust, the discomfort will cease. What you won’t feel are sharp metal wires poking your gums or cheeks.
What do I do for aligner upkeep?
The aligners should be cleaned daily, either by brushing or soaking with Invisalign solution. Then rinse with warm water before returning them to your mouth. Rinse the aligners every time they’re removed to wash away bacteria and debris. Brush after every meal so food doesn’t get trapped under the aligners when you place them back on your teeth. Store your aligners safely in their container when not in use.
Do I need to wear a retainer after completing Invisalign?
Yes! A retainer will prevent your teeth from reverting to their former position. Wearing your retainer as instructed will keep your smile perfectly aligned permanently.
