If you’re considering orthodontics, take a look at Invisalign. Invisalign is more comfortable and convenient than traditional braces and just as effective. Drs. Adi Nokiani and Eric Quan from Simply Wellness Dental in Vancouver, British Columbia, can help plan your procedure. Here are some questions we’re often asked about Invisalign for your teeth.
Traditional braces rely on brackets, wires and bands to straighten your teeth. Invisalign relies on clear aligner trays to achieve the same results. We’ll create a series of aligners to shift your teeth toward a straighter position gradually. You’ll use each aligner set for about two weeks before moving on to the next in your series. For best results, you’ll need to wear the aligners 20 to 22 hours daily for the allotted timeframe to complete your treatment.
Treatment times vary depending on the problems that need to be addressed and their severity. Minor tooth gaps, for example, may take as little as 6 months to close, whereas major alignment issues can take 12 to 24 months to correct. The average time frame for completion is 12 to 18 months.
None whatsoever, as the aligners are removed for eating and drinking anything but water. Whether you eat at home or dine out, you can continue to enjoy the foods you love! Keep in mind that a balanced, wholesome diet will keep your smile healthy and strong both during and after your procedure.
Some soreness and sensitivity can be expected at the onset of your procedure and when switching aligners, as you’re not used to the pressure the aligners place on your teeth. Once you adjust to aligner use, the soreness will cease. OTC pain relievers can help during this transition period.
Like metal braces, Invisalign can correct multiple orthodontic issues, including crooked, uneven or overlapping teeth, gaps between teeth, crowding and most cases of malocclusion. If your problem is beyond Invisalign’s ability to correct, we’ll recommend an alternative treatment.
As orthodontics can be a long, tedious treatment, it’s best to choose a system you’re comfortable with, can manage easily and suits your lifestyle. For most people, Invisalign fits the bill! Invisalign procedures are customized for every patient to achieve the best possible results. Removable aligners make eating more enjoyable and oral hygiene a breeze. What’s more, the use of transparent aligners makes your treatment discreet.
Yes. Retainers keep your teeth from relapsing, so your smile can stay in perfect alignment long-term. Your Vancouver dentist will instruct you on post-treatment retainer use.
